Police threw up roadblocks and closed a village cemetery where a dissident student is buried to prevent a pilgrimage Saturday by human rights activists seeking to cap a week of pro-democracy demonstrations.

In Prague, police patrolled Wen-ceslas Square and checked identity cards in an attempt to head off new protests, and the capital was free of disturbances for the first time in a week following a warning by the Czech prosecutor general's office that those participating in unauthorized demonstrations will be held "criminally responsible."
