If an appropriations panel has its way - and optimistic fiscal projections are accurate - the adult dental portion of the Medicaid program will be funded in 1990.

The joint Social Services and Health panel voted to include restoring adult dental services for the very poor, cut a couple of years ago, on its list of "urgent priorities."Medicaid currently covers only extractions and temporary fillings.

The decision is only tentative, but supporters of the funding restoration say it indicates a sincere interest in the program.
