An Indian family claims Jacqueline Onassis is keeping them from getting to sacred ground at her private retreat in the Gay Head section of Martha's Vineyard.

Members of the Leonard Vanderhoop family - descendants of the Wampanoag Indian tribe that originated in Gay Head - have laid claim to 11/2 acres of land smack in the middle of Onassis' property. Onassis has plenty of guards on the 300 acres, and the Vanderhoops complain that they can't get to their special spot because of them. The family says the land is the site of an old Wampanoag legend about Chief Moshup and his wife, Old Squant, who retreated to sand dunes there to escape the white man.
