Four members of the same family were each arraigned this week for custodial interference and aggravated burglary in the removal of a 21-month-old child at gunpoint from a Hooper home.

The child's grandmother, Darla J. Via, 44; mother, Carole Holleran, 30; father, Robert W. Via, 28; and uncle, Mark A. Via, 26, all of Garden Grove, Calif., entered not-guilty pleas to the charges before 2nd District Judge David Roth. All four family members will stand trial together on the Class A misdemeanor and first-degree felony charges on March 14.

According to testimony during a preliminary hearing, the parents of the boy could not properly care for their son so they gave the toddler to James and Evelyn Neal in Hooper about a year ago.

Then about six months ago, the parents wanted their son back and when the Neals refused to return the boy, the parents, uncle and grandmother went to the Neals' home on Nov. 4, and took the boy at gunpoint, according to testimony.

Weber County Attorney Reed Richards said the parents now have legal custody of the child, and that at no time were the Neals the legal guardians.
