Utah Power & Light Co. is sponsoring the eighth annual Electric Contest for all sixth- through ninth-grade students enrolled in middle or junior high schools.
Applications and information about the contest may be obtained from local school principals and science teachers. Entry forms must be returned by March 1 to UP&L, 51 E. Main Street, American Fork, UT 84003.The contest will be April 6 at the Mount Harmon Junior High School in Price. It will begin at 8 a.m. and continue through the afternoon.
Students are encouraged to start preparing entries early. Science fair projects using an aspect of electricity are eligible for the contest. The project can be a working model, an illustration or a combination.
Cash prizes will be awarded to winners and T-shirts will be given to all participants. Certificates, trophies and ribbons will be awarded to winning entries.
A grand prize will be chosen based on the highest total accumulated points from the judging. The winner will receive a cash prize of $100, a trophy, ribbon and certificate.
Cash prizes of $75, $50 and $25 will also be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners in each grade level, along with a trophy.
