A Salt Lake couple was scheduled to appear in an Ada County, Idaho, court Wednesday on charges they abandoned their 7-year-old boy two weeks ago outside of Boise.

Edward Tuinman, 29, and his wife, Deborah, 28, who waived their rights to extradition hearings last week, were taken from the Salt Lake County Jail to Idaho Tuesday to face charges of abandoning Eddy Tuinman, who was found alone at an I-84 rest stop on Jan. 4.Eddy was suffering malnutrition, bruises and burns.

The Tuinmans - en route to Arizona after apparently failing to find work in Washington - were arrested near Nephi on Jan. 7 after a 5-year-old Salt Lake boy helped police identify Eddy.

Eddy's siblings - a sister, age 9, and two brothers, ages 6 years and 9 months - were taken into protective custody.
