Officials trying to woo the Winter Olympics to Utah in 1998 gave their pitch to lawmakers Tuesday, asking for legislative approval of their plans.

Tom Welch, chairman of the committee organizing Salt Lake City's bid for the games, said he does not want money from the Legislature - not just yet, anyway. Welch said the city will wait until it receives the bid for the games from the United States Olympic Committee before asking taxpayers for help.To be host for the games, Salt Lake needs to construct a bobsled and luge run, a ski jump and a speed skating rink.
