The West Valley Exchange Club has presented its "Book of Golden Deeds" award to Joseph Sanders for his volunteer work at the Utah State Prison.

Sanders hasserved as a volunteer at the prison for more than five years, helping to initiate Seventh-day Adventist religious services for the inmates. He also started friendship counseling sessions for inmates in protective custody and developed schooling and tutoring programs to help inmates become productive members of society upon release.

In 1987, Sanders received the American Cancer Society's "Life Saver of the Year Award" and was inducted into the society's Hall of Fame. He has also donated countless hours to United Way.

Sanders is supervisor of the computer operations and document processing for American Express. He moved to Utah 5 1/2 years ago.
