The Utah Valley Community College speech and debate team returned with four individual and two team trophies from the recent Phi Rho Phi National Forensic Championships in Minneapolis.
During the four-day national competition, the college won more trophies than any other junior college in its region, which stretches along the Rocky Mountains from Canada to Mexico.Dr. Kim Brewster, director of the community college forensics team said, "We won regionals and made a good showing at nationals. I'm satisfied with our efforts."
Winning individual awards were Andrea Blake, who won a silver award in poetry interpretation and shared a bronze for duet acting with partner Scott Ditty; Ditty, who also received a bronze award for speech to entertain; and Todd Brewster and David Wright, who won bronze awards in duet acting.
In the team event of readers theater, both school teams received bronze awards. The performance of "Sybil" featured Mary Jo Brown, Maria Clark and Mary Ann Fitt, while "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" involved Brewster, Ditty, David Wright and Sean Dunn.
