Just saying no will be $35,000 easier at the Salt Lake Boys and Girls Clubs, thanks to a federal grant.

ACTION, a federal agency that encourages volunteer work, has awarded the club a $35,000 Drug Alliance Grant to help fund its "Drug Free and Proud to Be" program for the next year.ACTION announced awarding the grant through the office of Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.

Gene Kawa, operations director for the boys and girls clubs, said the money will be used to train adults and college and high school students to communicate with other adolescents and to help them set up networks to provide peer support to avoid or overcome drugs.

Kawa said the clubs plan to work with the Kiwanis Club to locate volunteers for the project willing to present positive role models.
