A drug runner who lost control of his van Wednesday on I-15 in southwestern Utah abandoned the overturned vehicle and its $150,000 cargo of marijuana, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Kevin Davis said he was investigating the accident when he found two garbage bags had apparently spilled from the van. He found four other bags inside the vehicle, all containing marijuana."The 80 pounds of marijuana was in one-pound packages," said Davis. "We've seized the drugs and the '87 Toyota van, but we haven't found anyone. We checked the hospitals in Cedar City and St. George and no one had checked in for treatment of injuries."

The northbound van apparently skidded out of control on an icy stretch of I-15 in the Black Ridge area, midway between Cedar City and St. George, drifted into the median strip and rolled.

"From the skid marks, it looks like it was going pretty slow when it tipped over. There were no signs of injuries inside the vehicle," he said.

The van was registered to a Romona Rodriguez of Whittier, Calif., Davis said, "but I suspect we'll receive a report it had been stolen."
