The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday issued the following statement:
"As citizens observe Jan. 16 as a national holiday to commemorate and advocate human dignity, we express our love and compassion for all of our Heavenly Father's children."We believe that all men and women are children of the same God and that they should enjoy the rights to gainful employment, to full educational opportunity, and to every privilege of citizenship.
"We deplore efforts to deny any person his or her inalienable dignity and rights on the abhorrent and tragic theory of the superiority of one race or color over another."
In Salt Lake City, the Church Administration Building and Church Office Building will be closed on Monday as church employees observe the national holiday.
