A Modesto, Calif., man remained in critical condition Friday following a Wednesday car-semitrailer truck collision that also injured his wife and son.

Walter Todd, 65, was flown by helicopter to LDS Hospital following the accident. Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jeff Graviet said Todd - a passenger in the car - suffered broken ribs and legs and internal bleeding. The driver of the car, Rebecca Holt, 39, Centerville, suffered minor injuries and is in satisfactory condition at Lakeview Hospital Friday, according to a nursing supervisor. Her son, Richard Dirk Todd, 18, Centerville, was also treated at the hospital and released. The driver of the semitrailer truck was not injured.

Graviet said Todd and his family were traveling north on I-15 near Fifth North in North Salt Lake when their car collided with a semitrailer truck driven by Greg J. Collett, 28, Salt Lake City, at about 3 p.m.

Officials were initially concerned about a possible chemical spill because the truck normally transports chemicals. Although the truck contained several 55-gallon drums, all were empty, he said.
