The West High School Alumni Association is looking for graduates to help work on activities for the school's centennial in 1990.

Alumni President Mary M. Rose, Class of 1941, said centennial celebrations will start late this year and continue through 1990.West opened in September 1890, the same month as the establishment of the Salt Lake School District and East High School. West and East were merged the Salt Lake High School the following year. The first class graduated in 1893. The high school was again separated into two schools in 1914.

For the centennial, the alumni plan a contest to select a flag design that best depicts 100 years of education at West. Interested individuals should submit their flag designs to the school by Feb. 12. The winning flag will be flown during the centennial.

Rose also said representatives from each graduating class, plus volunteers for the oldest classes, will make a flag for its year. They will be displayed in front of the school during the centennial.
