The House approved a resolution calling for Dec. 7 to be set aside at the "United States of America Citizenship Day" in Utah.

The date is better known as the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but the resolution sponsored by Rep. Jed Wasden, R-Salt Lake, asks Utahns to instead use the day to re-dedicate themselves "to the principles which created this great nation and secured for all of us the blessings of freedom and peace."The resolution also encourages public schools to discuss the responsibilities of being a U.S. citizen and suggests that activities involving both teachers and students be developed "to promote this positive, patriotic attitude."
