The House Social Services Standing Committee has given the go-ahead to a pair of bills that focus on domestic violence.

HB15 and HB16, co-sponsored by Reps. Joanne Milner, D-Salt Lake, and R. Mont Evans, R-Riverton, would make it easier for women to get protective orders against abusive spouses and would create a task force to study the problems of domestic violence.HB15 addresses some short-term problems in the current system by making it easier to obtain a protective order and extending the length of the order. The task force created by HB16 would be comprised of abuse victims, social service, criminal justice officials and others.
