Israeli settlers observed a general strike Thursday in the occupied West Bank to protest what they consider inadequate military protection from Palestinian protesters, and soldiers shot and killed an 11-year-old Arab boy at a funeral.

Some settlers stayed home from work while others set up stands in parts of the West Bank to sell small Israeli flags and urged Israelis to fly them on their cars. All 32 settlements in the northern section of the West Bank declared the strike to protest alleged inadequate military protection against what they say are almost daily stone-throwing incidents, gasoline bomb attacks and cut electric and telephone lines.
