Two Salt Lake businesses were robbed at gunpoint Monday night, police said.

Salt Lake Police Lt. Tom Brown said an employee at Smith's Food and Drug, 876 E. Eighth South, tried to stop a man who was attempting to shoplift about $10 worth of bulk chocolate about 9:30 p.m."He pulled out a gun and made clear his intentions and left," he said.

Earlier, at about 6:45 p.m., a gunman escaped with an undetermined amount of cash after robbing the Chevron gas station at 504 S. West Temple, Brown said.
