A 38-year-old counselor at the Bear River Mental Health Center was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident when she tried to help a dog that had been struck by another car.
Logan Police Lt. Craig Andrews said Jo Ellen Poulsen had left her car at the intersection of 12th North and Second East after she observed a small dog struck by a southbound vehicle about 6 p.m. Monday."When she hurried into the roadway to tend to the dog she was subsequently struck by a northbound car," Andrews said.
He said the car was driven by Beverly A. Knox, 23, of Logan.
Trent Wentz, assistant director of the Bear River Mental Health Center, said Poulsen joined the staff about 11/2 years ago and had been working with the most seriously mentally ill clients.
"She had a great relationship with these people and this is a real tragedy, not only because it is the loss of a good friend, but also a very competent professional," Wentz said.
