To the editor:

Our community lost a dedicated and unselfish patron of the arts with the passing on Dec. 30, of Glenn Walker Wallace.Mrs. Wallace, herself a daughter of a civic-minded family and the wife of a civic-minded husband, John M. Wallace, devoted much of her life to the support of the performing arts in our community.

As the co-founder of Ballet West and the founder of the Utah Symphony, Mrs. Wallace gave generously of both her time and financial resources in the support of these organizations.

Mrs. Wallace, at the time of her death, was the Honorary Life Chairman of Ballet West.

Over the years, the lives of hundreds of thousands of people have been richly enhanced by the performances of Ballet West and the Utah Symphony, and this has been in large measure possible through the vision and generosity of Mrs. Wallace.

If it were not for the vision, leadership, and generosity of Mrs. Wallace, we as the beneficiaries of her efforts would not be the recipients of this cultural enrichment. Ballet West and the Utah Symphony have become cultural cornerstones of our community.

I hope that all of us will do what we can to perpetuate the vision of Mrs. Wallace.

Stephen D. Swindle
