Salt Lake police detectives continued investigating Tuesday the slaying of an elderly Salt Lake man who was found brutalized in his home Monday afternoon.
The body of Gilbert T. Lisonbee, 85, 2636 S. Green St., was discovered shortly before 3 p.m.Homicide squad Sgt. Don Bell said Lisonbee was supposed to visit a female friend in the early afternoon. When Lisonbee failed to show, the woman went to his home and found it in disarray.
"It looked like there had been a fight," said Bell.
The woman, unable to find Lisonbee, contacted a next-door neighbor, who then entered the home and found the victim under some bedding near the front door.
"It was pretty gruesome," said the neighbor, who asked not to be identified.
Bell said he did not know the cause of death but speculated it might be a beating with a blunt object.
Police have identified no suspects.
Lisonbee was described by neighbors as an active gentleman who enjoyed life. "He was a good guy. He really was," said Bill Schiffgen. "He didn't have an enemy in the world. He loved life."
