The number of tourists visiting historic Temple Square increased by more than three-quarters of a million people in 1988 as compared to the previous year.

In 1988, some 4.16 million visitors toured the square compared to the 3.4 million tourists in 1987.The increase not only makes it Utah's top tourist attraction, it is also out-drawing nearly all of the national parks in the western United States, including California's popular Yosemite, and is now running neck-and-neck with the Grand Canyon.
