Over Nicaragua's objections, a Central American summit scheduled for next weekend in San Salvador has been postponed until after the Jan. 20 inauguration of U.S. President-elect George Bush.

The meeting of five Central American presidents would seek to advance a stalled regional peace plan. El Salvador's foreign minister said it could convene as early as Jan. 29.Foreign Minister Rodrigo Madrigal Nieto said in San Jose on Monday that the presidents of Honduras and El Salvador had agreed with President Oscar Arias' suggestion that the summit be postponed.

Arias proposed the delay on Friday, saying Bush should be given time to formulate a Central American policy.
