Two Moslems were charged Tuesday in connection with the grenade attack at a basketball championship game that killed 27 people and wounded 80, officials said.

Suwib Ampatuan, 23, and his cousin Tukan Ampatuan, 21, were charged with murder in the criminal court of Esperanza town, where two grenades exploded during the award ceremonies Sunday night, said police station commander Lt. Florencio Balinas.Most of those who died were children, and many of the wounded were in serious condition, authorities said.

The two suspects, arrested while fleeing on a motorcycle, operated a gambling syndicate in Esperanza, 600 miles south of Manila and 50 miles southeast of the provincial capital of Cotabato, Balinas said.
