Vernon Maxwell said he received $1,000 monthly payments from a Miami source while playing basketball at the University of Florida, according to a real estate agent whose company rented Maxwell a townhouse at the time.

Maxwell denied ever making such a claim, the Gainesville Sun reported in a story published Saturday.Earlier this week, Maxwell reportedly admitted taking money from sports agents while at Florida. Maxwell, who played for the Gators from 1985 to 1988, confirmed he was paid small amounts of money, $20 or $30 by Hollywood, Fla., agent Greg Latimer. He said others gave him cash but refused to name them.
