Rep. Ray Nielsen, D-Fairview, has received an economic development award from Utah Small Cities Inc. for sponsoring legislation allowing enterprise zones in rural areas of Utah.

In presenting the award, John Williams, chairman of the board of Utah Small Cities Inc., said the bill is important to rural Utah because it targets area where economic development is needed. "This clearly enhances small cities and rural counties in their marketing capabilities and allows them to be more competitive in drawing industry into the state," he said.A key element of the legislation in the enterprise zone plan requires eligible counties to coordinate existing resources and create innovative new approaches to economic development prior to receiving the tax incentives provided in the legislation.
