Beaumont City Manager Al Haines resigned Friday, saying he has accepted the job of director of finance and administration for the Houston City Council.

But Haines - city manager for two years - said the Houston position still must be approved by that city's council. As director, Haines said he would oversee Houston's financial planning, revenue collection and budget activities.Haines said Houston Mayor Kathy Whitmire offered him the $90,000 a year position effective Jan. 25, subject to council approval.

Before moving to Beaumont, Haines worked in government positions in Salt Lake City and Orem, and in Clark County in Nevada.
