The Utah Jazz's old home court - not necessarily with the advantage - has been sold to the Salt Lake Lutheran High School.

The basketball court, the Golden Eagles' Zamboni ice-grooming machines and other usable sports memorabilia were included in the Salt Palace's "going out of business sale" this week, with many other items sent out to the auction block.Work is scheduled to begin in November on a new $70 million Salt Palace convention center, with demolition of the old palace, including the Acord Arena, to follow soon thereafter.

Salt Lake County commissioners approved the sale of the floor and basketball standards to the Salt Lake Lutheran High School for $5,000 cash plus $15,000 in use credits to the County Parks and Recreation Division.

The Zamboni machines, dasher boards with acrylic shielding, nets, ice cutter and other hockey paraphernalia once used and abused by the Golden Eagles will be leased to the Cottonwood Heights Re-crea-tion Center and others in exchange for county use of the facilities.

Brent H. Cameron, community services director, said the recommendations for the disposal of Salt Palace items came from a special salvageable goods committee that was formed after the county began receiving unsolicited bids for some of the arena's fixtures.

For example, the Lutheran High School had asked the county to donate the basketball court to its new facility at 4020 S. 900 East. And county officials had received inquiries from throughout the country regarding the possible sale of arena seating, the Zamboni machines and other arena facilities.

Cameron said the sheriff's office and Utah National Guard asked for and will receive various small items, such as wall clocks and exit signs, in accordance with the county policies.

Everything else will be sold through the normal surplus sale procedures or auctions, Cameron said. The County Commission authorized the sale and directed Cameron to proceed with the required advertising.

Although the salvageable goods committee hasn't completed its work, its "for sale" list so far includes scoreboards, animation boards, advertising panels, a boiler, toilet partitions, toilet flushometers and china, door hardware, arena seats, theatrical lights and a boxing ring.
