A Utah federal judge Friday sentenced an admitted drug addict to three years in prison on his guilty pleas to distributing small amounts of heroin and cocaine.

"I've been taking drugs since I was a young teenager," Kenneth Dean Amodt told Judge Thomas Greene. "I'd really like to get in a drug program to find out what keeps leading me back to the same situation."Amodt was indicted by a federal grand jury in September 1988 for selling the drugs, almost immediately after he was released from the Utah State Prison where he had just served a 5-year term, prosecutors said.

Greene sentenced co-defendant Christopher L. Loya, of Salt Lake County, to 18 months in prison on his guilty plea to a single count of distribution of cocaine, telling him "we'll see if we can't get some help for you." In exchange for Loya's plea, a similar count was dismissed.
