A 41-year-old northern California man arrested on charges of being part of a three-state cocaine distribution ring was ordered removed Friday to San Diego to face the allegations.

John David Garrish, Sunset Beach, Calif., had been scheduled to face a detention hearing Friday, before U.S. Magistrate Calvin Gould, to determine whether the suspect could be freed on bail. But prosecutors said Garrish agreed to delay bail proceedings and be escorted by U.S. marshals to California. Prosecutors have recommended Garrish's bail be set at $400,000.

The suspect was among 23 people charged Dec. 7, 1988, in a 132-count indictment in California alleging they operated a continuing criminal enterprise.

Alleged drug ring members also were charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and illegal use of communication facilities, FBI agents said.

Federal agents arrested Garrish on Wednesday in northern Utah's Park City resort community, where they said he had been living recently.
