City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky dropped out of the mayor's race today, leaving Tom Bradley with no serious opposition in his bid for an unprecedented fifth term in the nation's second-largest city.

Yaroslavsky, 40, said he had concluded he would probably lose to Bradley. A councilman since 1975, Yaroslavsky said he will instead seek re-election.City Council President John Ferraro said that without Yaroslavsky in the race, the 71-year-old Bradley should be elected easily to another four-year term.

Candidates have until Jan. 14 to file to run in the April 11 primary.
