The City Council has given preliminary approval to a new development at Fifth South and Second West that will include a 44,000 square-foot food store, a strip mall and two other commercial buildings.

Council members voted Wednesday night to approve the project that would sit on 7.2 acres next to the Bountiful Fred Meyer store, according to Robert Moore of Catlin Properties. In granting the preliminary approval of the site plan, Councilman Robert Gramoll requested that the developers relocate an entrance off Second West because of the unsafe conditions the entrance might cause.
