The rape of a Brigham Young University student earlier this week most likely is not related to other sexual assaults in the area, a Provo police spokesman says.

Capt. George Pierpont said a man entered the student's apartment, near 1060 E. 450 North, through a window at about 3:30 a.m. Monday. The assailant put a knife to the victim's throat, tied her up and raped her.Pierpont said police have no description of the man because he put something over the victim's head during the attack and she did not see him.

A second girl in the apartment was not harmed. The man stole several dollars before leaving.

A rape that occurred several months ago at Campus Plaza, 669 E. Eighth North, was similar to this week's rape, but Pierpont said other assaults reported in the past month are classified as kidnapping.

Those incidents occurred when the victims were abducted at knife point and taken to a residence or apartment. The assailant then attempted to rape the victims.

A knife was used in all the incidents, but Pierpont said, "We may have two different suspects."
