Patti Thiel Fricks, director of the Bureau of Environmental Sanitation and Safety, Salt Lake City/County Health Department, is the 1988 recipient of the Utah Environmental Health Association's Pickett-Webb Memorial Award.

The award is given annually to recognize outstanding achievement in the field of environmental health.Fricks oversees the health department's programs responsible for inspection, surveillance and enforcement activities relating to housing sanitation, insect and vector control, zoonoses, institutional sanitation, public lodging, solid waste management and weed and noise control.

John J. Kunzler of Orem has been named chairman of Brigham Young University's Department of Technology, President Jeffrey R. Holland announced recently. Kunzler takes the place of Jim L. Carroll who moved to the BYU Office of Research Administration as a technology transfer specialist. Kunzler is a registered professional engineer, a certified manufacturing engineer and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He has worked for IBM/SBC in Los Angeles as a senior manufacturing engineer and as manager of numerical control.
