The Coast Guard battled the stormy Atlantic and fierce winds Thursday attempting to rescue 15 fishermen caught in two disabled vessels more than 100 miles off Cape Cod. The incidents began Tuesday night, when the 210-foot fishing vessel Orion, out of Gloucester, became caught in a storm and strong winds and later sustained engine failure. The boat's electricity had failed, leaving the six crew members without heat in frigid weather. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard received a request for help from the Nautilus, a 74-foot vessel out of Boston that became stranded about 150 miles off Provincetown. The captain radioed that the engine had failed in a heavy storm. Harrington said.
