Disgruntled Moslem policemen barged into a military headquarters Thursday in the city of Zamboanga and took hostage a regional commander and six of his aides after a gun battle that left two people dead, a military spokeswoman said.

The eight men entered the southern command headquarters in the port city 500 miles south of Manila and seized Brig. Gen. Eduardo Batalla, Region 9 military commander, his chief of staff Col. Romeo Abendan, and five other officers.Spokeswoman Gertrude Aquino said a soldier and a civilian were killed as the gunmen fought their way to Batalla's second-floor office.
