Three Salt Lake elementary schools will move to a year-round schedule in July in an effort to give booster shots to their academic performances.
Principals from Franklin, Bennion and Parkview elementary schools reported their plans to the Salt Lake Board of Education Tuesday. All have held elections where parents approved the move to a year-round schedule.Superintendent John W. Bennion said parents who strongly object to the new schedule will be allowed to move their children to nearby schools, if there is space available.
Whittier was the city's first school to move to a year-round schedule and was also the first in the state to switch schedules for academic reasons. Other Utah schools utilize a year-round schedule to manage increasing enrollments.
