Stephen D. Ricks has been named president of the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies.
Ricks, a professor of Asian and Near Eastern languages at Brigham Young University, received a doctorate in Near Eastern religions from the University of California at Berkeley. He recently returned from Jerusalem, where he spent a year in teaching and research at BYU's Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies.
Ricks has been associated with the foundation since 1979 and has been a member of its board of directors since 1986. He succeeds the founding president, J.W. Welch, a professor of law at BYU.
