Gene D. Blackwelder, director of auxiliary services for 13 years at the University of Utah, has received the Robert F. Newton Award for Distinguished Service at the 20th annual meeting of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services.

Blackwelder has also been appointed to the Professional Development and Education Committee, which plans workshops and seminars for the organization.He has been a member of the association for 19 years at the regional and national levels, serving as president of both the Western Association of College Auxiliary Services and the National Association of College Auxiliary Services.

As director of the U.'s auxiliary services, Blackwelder oversees food services, bookstore, housing, parking and public transportation and the Jon M. Huntsman Center. He is involved with the U. Crimson Club, Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the University Credit Union board of directors.

Association membership includes more than 1,300 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
