Johnny Cash is a changed man after heart surgery and he intends to thank God for bringing him through the operation by making a record of Bible readings with another heart patient, Waylon Jennings.

The country music star was released from a Nashville, Tenn., hospital Tuesday and said he was going to start an exercise program and watch his diet."I can never have another cigarette. I'm 56 now and I don't want to have to do this again," Cash said.

He described the double-bypass as "a great, soul-searching experience" and said he'll thank God with an album. "I'm going to pay him back for what he gave me," Cash said. "My mama said do it, so I'm going to do it."

Cash's wife, June Carter Cash, and Jennings' wife, Jessi Colter, will join them on the record, Cash said.
