Recently departed Eagle rookie center Theoren Fleury was named International Hockey League Co-Player of the Month for December after winning the award outright for November. Fleury shared the December honor with Fort Wayne goalie Bob Essensa, who had a 7-1 record and 3.03 goals-against average.

In 12 December games, Fleury had 14 goals, 23 assists for 37 points (3.3 a game), and he spent the first day of January en route to Calgary, where he became a member of the Flames. For the season, Fleury had 37 goals, 37 assists for 74 points in 40 games.
