A Sandy man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on I-15 near 102nd South.
David R. Mortensen, 23, was flown to University Hospital and was in serious condition Tuesday with multiple fractures, internal injuries and possible head injuries, a nursing supervisor said.The Utah Highway Patrol said that Mortensen was traveling south on I-15 at about 1:38 p.m. when his car collided with another car driven by Robert J. Defendi, 17, of Pleasant Grove. Defendi was traveling north on I-15 when his left front tire blew out. He lost control of his car, crossed the freeway median and collided into the driver's door of Mortensen's pickup, a dispatcher said.
Defendi was treated and released at Holy Cross Jordan Valley Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
