Weber County Sheriff's deputies have cited two skiers for allegedly crossing boundaries into dangerous avalanche areas at Snowbasin Ski Resort in the mountains east of Ogden.
Resort and law enforcement authorities said they will cite anyone who ventures into closed areas because the avalanche danger is extreme."People seem to think we're keeping them out of those areas for fun, but it's much more serious than that," said Tim Franchi, director of Snowbasin's ski patrol.
A 33-year-old woman and her 18-year-old brother were cited Thursday after several witnesses said they saw the pair enter a closed area on skis.
Deputies said the woman told officials she had seen the signs designating the area was closed due to avalanche danger but crossed into the area because she was trying to teach her brother to ski in powder snow.
