A bomb blast at a Hindu temple killed at least five Hindus on Sunday, the year's first victims of continuing Sikh militant violence in India's troubled northwestern Punjab state.

At least 20 others were injured in the explosion that occurred when Hindus were praying at the shrine in Chawinda Devi town, 20 miles east of Amritsar, police and news reports said.Police blamed the militant Sikh group Babbar Khalsa, one of about a dozen militant underground groups operating in the state, for the blast.
