Two people who saw news in the making and relayed tips to the Deseret News will receive cash for their quick thinking.
Doug McCulloch, Salt Lake City, saw news in the collapse of the snow-burdened roof of the Fred Meyer store at 33rd South and 33rd East and made a quick call to the newspaper. That allowed photographers and reporters to get the story quickly.McCulloch will receive a $25 check for the tip.
Receiving $15 will be Elaine Payne, Centerville, who thought newspaper readers would be interested in the efforts of a group of Utah doctors and medical technologists to assist in the treatment of Armenians injured in a massive earthquake.
Although the charitable mission didn't come to fruition, Payne's early notification of the Deseret News was deemed worthy of a news tip award.
News tips are welcomed to the news room, 237-2100.
