Salt Lake County officials are working feverishly on an "instant neighborhood park" in the unincorporated Taylorsville-Bennion area.

Parks and recreation officials said the park, 6070 S. 3885 West, was nothing but bare dirt two weeks ago. County workers and neighborhood volunteers laid sod Saturday morning. The county will provide trees, playground equipment and flowers within a few days.Developers agreed several years ago to leave parts of subdivisions vacant for neighborhood parks. Because of a lack of money, the county has developed few of the parks, and many of the vacant areas have become ugly, weed-infested lots, officials said.

The park will cost about $30,000. Officials said they hope the new park will be the first of many.
