The Idaho Board of Correction decided that "Owhyee View" or "Southern Desert" didn't portray the proper image of a maximum security prison.

So board members decided to call the new prison being built south of Boise exactly what it is Idaho Maximum Security Prison."It connotes exactly what kind of place it is," board member L. James Koutnik said. "It's not a flower garden or a country club. It's a maximum-security prison."

Board member Wendell Miller suggested calling the facility Centennial Prison to commemorate the state's 100th birthday.

But Chairman Robert Anderson said he wasn't sure he wanted to commemorate the year that the state had to spend $30 million for a prison while "schools are going to hell."
