Pledges and donation to the 1988 United Way campaign totaled $4,219,830 as of Dec. 29. It represents 84 percent of the fund drive's $5,031,195 goal.

Several area corporations reported outstanding results. Employees at Kennecott Copper Company donated $92,585 - a 116 percent increase over last year. Likewise, Wasatch Canyon Hospital reported a 50 percent increase and Ernst and Whinney reported a 33 percent jump in contributions.Health and human service agencies which benefit from the funds also run employee campaigns to support the drive. The Salt Lake Boys and Girls Club increased donations by 57 percent this year.

"Once the holiday season is behind us, we expect the final results from Several firms," said Ross E. Kendall, president of Key Bank and campaign chairman. "Results continue to be encouraging and we are still enthusiastic about reaching the goal."
