The Urban Mass Transit Agency approved Thursday a $4.4 million operating grant to the Utah Transit Authority for operations in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Orem and Provo.

Federal funding comprises 10 percent of the $33 million operating budget for fiscal year 1989.At a time when federal funds have been shrinking, "this allows us to stay in business and run an efficient company," said UTA spokesman Craig Rasmussen. He said operating the transit company without the grant would be virtually impossible.
