Students from Judge Memorial, Carbon, Southeast Region and Grand County high schools are in Washington, D.C., through April 30 to learn how American government functions.

Their visit is sponsored by the Closeup Foundation, a group that encourages citizen involvement in government. RJR Nabisco Inc. and Producers Livestock Marketing Association are the largest contributors to the program.The 470 Utah students will join more than 24,000 peers from throughout the country for a week of seminars, meetings with congressmen, journalists, lobbyists and government representatives.
